New Delhi: The seventh session of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) Assembly, hosted at the iconic Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, has concluded with significant leadership appointments for the 2024-2026 period. The Republic of India was elected as the President, while the Republic of France triumphed over Grenada in the contest for Co-President.
The ISA Assembly, the apex decision-making body of the Alliance, elects its President and Co-President with consideration for equitable geographical representation. In addition to these leadership roles, the Assembly selected Vice Presidents for its Standing Committee from four regional groups: Africa; Asia and the Pacific; Europe and Others; and Latin America and the Caribbean.
For the Africa region, the Republic of Ghana and the Republic of Seychelles will serve as Vice Presidents. The Commonwealth of Australia and the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka will represent the Asia and the Pacific region. The Federal Republic of Germany and the Republic of Italy were chosen for Europe and Others, while Grenada and the Republic of Suriname will hold office for the Latin America and the Caribbean region.
The ISA Assembly, which convenes annually at the ministerial level, plays a crucial role in guiding the organization. It evaluates the implementation of the ISA’s Framework Agreement and assesses the outcomes of various programs to advance solar energy deployment, focusing on performance, cost, reliability, and financing scale.
The ongoing seventh session of the ISA Assembly is centered on critical global issues, including energy access, energy security, and energy transition. These deliberations seek to drive progress and solutions for some of the most pressing challenges in renewable energy.
ISA’s governance structure includes the Assembly, the Standing Committee, and Regional Committees, which collectively foster collaboration and facilitate decision-making. The current session provides an opportunity for ISA Member Countries to enhance partnerships and cooperative initiatives, strengthening their collective efforts toward a sustainable energy future.
