New Delhi: In a major stride towards strengthening India’s indigenous defence manufacturing and achieving self-reliance in aerospace technology, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has approved the Execution Model for the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) Programme. The programme will be carried out by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) through a collaborative industry partnership model.
The newly approved execution framework marks a paradigm shift in defence production by providing equal opportunities to both public and private sector players. Under the model, companies can participate either independently or in collaboration — as joint ventures or consortia — provided they are Indian entities in compliance with national laws and regulations.
The AMCA programme is a cornerstone project in India’s defence aviation roadmap. The development of the fifth-generation stealth fighter aircraft is expected to enhance the Indian Air Force’s operational capabilities and reduce reliance on foreign platforms. The prototype’s development under the new model will be a critical milestone in India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat mission, especially in the strategically vital aerospace sector.
By opening up the bidding process and encouraging a level playing field, the Ministry of Defence aims to tap into the full spectrum of domestic expertise, technological capability, and production capacity. The model is designed to foster innovation and competition, while also promoting collaboration among India’s top aerospace players.
