Rajkot: In a significant turn of events, Indian offspinner, Ravichandran Ashwin has withdrawn from the ongoing third Test against England in Rajkot due to a family medical emergency.
Vice President of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Rajeev Shukla, thorough a X (formerly Twitter) post, shared the news and wished a speedy recovery to Ashwin’s mother.
Rajeev Shukla tweeted on X, “Wishing speedy recovery of mother of @ashwinravi99. He has to rush and leave Rajkot test to Chennai to be with his mother.”
The BCCI released an official statement, expressing full support for Ashwin during these challenging times. The statement acknowledged the importance of the health and well-being of the players and their families and requested respect for the privacy of Ashwin and his family as they navigate through this difficult period.
Jay Shah, Honorary Secretary, BCCI, stated through the press release, “The Board and the team will continue to provide any necessary assistance to Ashwin and will keep the lines of communication open to offer support as needed. Team India appreciates the understanding and empathy of the fans and media during this sensitive period.”
Ashwin’s absence from the third Test adds to the challenges faced by the Indian team, with several players already unavailable due to various reasons. The BCCI assured that they would stand by the champion cricketer and extend any required support during these testing circumstances.
