IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Thunderstorms in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘Yellow’ alert for 19 districts in Odisha, forecasting thunderstorms with lightning over the next 24 hours. Additionally, heatwave conditions are expected to prevail in several districts during the same period.

In its midday weather bulletin, the IMD warned of thunderstorms accompanied by gusty surface winds reaching 30-40 KMPH in districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, and Kalahandi.

Meanwhile, the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Boudh, Bolangir, and Nuapada are expected to experience heatwave conditions during the next 24 hours, prompting the IMD to issue a ‘Yellow’ alert for these areas.

Furthermore, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are forecasted in coastal Odisha, along with districts including Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Kalahandi, Malkangiri, Nawarangpur, Kandhamal, Koraput, and Rayagada. The rest of the districts in Odisha are expected to experience dry weather during the same period.
