IMD Forecasts Hot and Humid Weather Conditions in Odisha for Next Few Days

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather advisory indicating the likelihood of hot and humid weather prevailing over several districts of Odisha for the next 4-5 days.

In its evening bulletin, the IMD highlighted the prevailing dry conditions across major parts of the state coupled with high solar insolation, leading to a projected rise in maximum temperatures by 2 °C at certain places over interior Odisha in the next 48 hours. The forecast suggests that this temperature trend will persist over the state for the subsequent days.

Accordingly, maximum temperatures are anticipated to range between 38 to 40°C in many interior districts and between 36 to 38°C along the coastal areas of Odisha over the next 4 to 5 days, as per the IMD.

Additionally, the IMD forecast indicates a rise in minimum temperatures by 2-3°C during the coming days in many parts of the state. Night temperatures are expected to range between 24 to 26°C in coastal districts and between 21 to 23°C in interior districts of Odisha. These temperatures are anticipated to be above normal by 2 to 4°C in most areas across Odisha.

Given the relative humidity levels ranging from 50 to 70% in coastal Odisha and between 30 to 50% in interior districts, the IMD has advised the public to take precautionary measures while venturing outdoors between 10 am to 3 pm to combat the prevailing hot and humid weather conditions.

Yesterday, Paralakhemundi in Gajapati district recorded the highest maximum day temperature at 39.8°C, while Puri recorded the highest minimum temperature at 26.8°C across Odisha.

The IMD reported appreciable rises in maximum and minimum temperatures at select locations in South and North Coastal Odisha, respectively, while observing overall normal temperatures in other districts. The agency also emphasized the need for continued irrigation activities in crops and vegetables, particularly in sugarcane, summer maize, and pulses, in light of the prevailing weather conditions.

While the current heat is deemed tolerable for the general public, vulnerable groups such as infants, elderly, and individuals with health conditions are advised to take necessary precautions when outdoors during peak daytime hours.
