IIT Bhubaneswar Launches New Programs and Courses to Align with Industry Trends

Bhubaneswar: In response to emerging technology trends and industry demands, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar has introduced two new programs and several courses for its upcoming Fall 2024 session. These initiatives aim to equip students with cutting-edge skills and knowledge aligned with the evolving needs of various sectors.

Interdisciplinary Blended-mode M.Tech. Degree in “Advanced Maintenance Technology”:

The new M.Tech. program in Advanced Maintenance Technology caters to engineers already working in industries, focusing on enhancing sustainability, productivity, and industry-academia interaction. It offers a blend of courses from mechanical, civil, electrical, metallurgical, and materials engineering, with a special emphasis on maintenance issues such as corrosion, welding, vibration, and structures. The program also delves into the development of digital twins for diagnosing failures, including the study and application of chaos in dynamical systems. Notably, one research group has already made strides in discovering a new chaotic attractor, which shows promise in failure prediction and detection in industrial systems.

M.Tech. Degree Program in Semiconductor Technology and Chip Design:

Amid India’s Semiconductor Mission (ISM) aimed at establishing the country as a global electronics manufacturing and design hub, IIT Bhubaneswar introduces an M.Tech. program in Semiconductor Technology and Chip Design. This program covers various aspects of semiconductor technology, including design, fabrication, assembly, testing, packaging, and the development of IPs/ASICs/SoCs/Systems for targeted applications. With the semiconductor industry poised for significant growth, this program seeks to create skilled professionals to support the sector’s expansion and innovation.

New Courses and Initiatives:

In addition to the new programs, IIT Bhubaneswar has introduced several new courses to modernize its curriculum. These include a Minor in Economics, Micro-specialization in Software Engineering, courses on entrepreneurship, and a range of new open electives in modern areas of study for undergraduate and research students.

Furthermore, the institute has established the ‘Professor R.H. Tupkary Fellowship’ for Ph.D. students, funded by a generous donation of Rs. 1 crore from Prof. Brahma Deo. This fellowship supports research in critical areas such as mental health disorders, leveraging interdisciplinary collaboration with institutions like AIIMS. Additionally, research on chaotic dynamical systems has yielded promising results for disease analysis, showcasing the institute’s commitment to impactful research.

These initiatives underscore IIT Bhubaneswar’s dedication to fostering industry-academia collaboration, promoting innovation in technical education and research, and facilitating the professional development of its students. With a focus on aligning with industry trends and addressing societal challenges, the institute continues to strive for excellence in education and research.
