Goa: The 55th edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) is set to take place in Goa from November 20 to 28, 2024, with an exciting new addition aimed at celebrating emerging Indian filmmakers. In a significant move, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has introduced the “Best Debut Indian Film Section 2024”, providing a platform for young directors to showcase their work and contribute fresh perspectives to Indian cinema.
This newly instituted section at IFFI will spotlight debut feature films from across India, presenting a diverse array of narratives and cinematic styles. The goal is to celebrate the unique creative vision and storytelling of young filmmakers, offering them an international stage to present their work. A maximum of five debut films, directed by first-time filmmakers, will be selected for this category based on the festival’s rules and regulations.
As part of the festival’s efforts to recognize and encourage new talent, IFFI 2024 will also present a Best Debut Director of Indian Feature Film Award. This accolade will honor a first-time director for their creative vision, artistic merit, storytelling, and overall impact on Indian cinema. The award comprises a certificate and a cash prize of Rs. 5 lakhs, acknowledging the recipient’s contribution to the evolution of Indian filmmaking.
Entries for the Best Debut Indian Film Section are now open. Indian debut feature films can be submitted at the official IFFI website, iffigoa.org, with a deadline of September 23, 2024. Further details and submission guidelines are also available on the website.
