IFFI 2024 Opens with a Star-Studded Premiere of ‘Better Man’ – A Tribute to Robbie Williams

Goa: Cinema, much like music, has the extraordinary ability to transcend boundaries and connect souls through the universal language of emotions. In a celebration of this transformative art form, the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) opened with the much-anticipated premiere of ‘Better Man’, directed by Michael Gracey. This musical biopic pays tribute to the resilience, fame, and extraordinary life of British pop icon Robbie Williams.

The film’s premiere was a grand affair, as the cast and crew walked the IFFI Red Carpet before the screening, adding to the excitement and glamour of the evening. Sanjay Jaju, Secretary, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, along with Vrunda Desai, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Shekhar Kapoor, Festival Director of IFFI, and Delilah M. Lobo, Vice-Chairman of the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), were present to felicitate the film’s producer Paul Currie and actress Raechelle Banno for their contribution to the film’s success.

In his address before the screening, Paul Currie remarked, “The film is not about how the world perceives Robbie, but rather about how Robbie perceives himself.” He expressed his excitement at presenting the film at such a prestigious platform. Actress Raechelle Banno shared her enthusiasm, saying, “IFFI holds great significance for me, and I am thrilled to present this film to all of you.” The director of the film, Michael Gracey, joined virtually and expressed his admiration for Bollywood, stating, “Bollywood cinema has had a profound influence on my work.”

Directed by Michael Gracey, best known for his work on The Greatest Showman (2017), Better Man is a unique musical biopic told from Robbie Williams’ perspective. The film delves into the duality of his public persona and private struggles, offering an intimate portrayal of his rise to superstardom while confronting the emotional toll of fame.

In an unprecedented move, Robbie Williams plays himself in the film, delivering a mesmerizing performance that captures his indomitable spirit and electrifying stage presence. The film follows his journey from childhood to becoming the youngest member of the chart-topping boy band Take That, and eventually, his record-breaking success as a solo artist. Along the way, it explores the challenges of stratospheric fame and the search for personal peace in a world that often demands perfection.
