IFFI 2024: 15 Films to Compete for Golden Peacock at Prestigious Film Festival in Goa

Goa: The 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) is set to captivate audiences from November 20 to November 28 with a diverse selection of global cinema. This year, 15 films will compete for the prestigious Golden Peacock Award, including 12 international titles and three Indian entries, each chosen for its distinct narrative, cultural depth, and cinematic artistry.

The competing films bring unique stories and themes from around the world, offering a fresh perspective on human values, cultures, and the art of storytelling. The line-up includes powerful international titles like Fear & Trembling from Iran, Gulizar from Turkey, Holy Cow from France, I am Nevenka from Spain, Panopticon from the USA, Pierce from Singapore, Red Path from Tunisia, and Shepherds, a joint production from Canada and France. Also in the running are The New Year That Never Came from Romania, Toxic from Lithuania, Waves from the Czech Republic, and Who Do I Belong To, a co-production from Tunisia and Canada.

Representing India are The Goat Life, Article 370, and Raavsaheb, which bring unique Indian voices to the international stage.

Esteemed Jury to Decide Golden Peacock Winner

Leading the jury this year is celebrated Indian filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker. Joining him are acclaimed international figures, including Singaporean director Anthony Chen, British-American producer Elizabeth Karlsen, Spanish producer Fran Borgia, and Australian film editor Jill Bilcock. Together, they will evaluate the films and award distinctions in categories such as Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor (Male), Best Actor (Female), and a Special Jury Prize.

The coveted Golden Peacock Award comes with a prize of ₹40 lakh, representing one of the highest honors in the festival.

This year’s entries span a wide range of genres and themes, taking audiences into uncharted territories and amplifying diverse voices from around the world. From experimental storytelling to profound reflections on society, the films promise a journey through compelling narratives that challenge perceptions and celebrate global cinema.
