ICAI to Conduct CA Exams Thrice a Year Starting 2024

New Delhi: In a significant move, the Council of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has announced its decision to conduct the Chartered Accountancy (CA) exams three times a year, starting from 2024. The decision was made during the 430th meeting of the ICAI held on March 7, 2024, in New Delhi.

The council has outlined a schedule for conducting exams in the months of January, May/June, and September. Previously, CA exams were conducted only in May/June and January. This new decision applies to both Intermediate and Foundation courses.

An official release from ICAI stated, “It has been decided that, in order to facilitate the students, Intermediate and Foundation course examinations will be conducted thrice a year in the month of January, May/June, and September. Earlier, both the examinations were held twice a year. Globally, the frequency of examinations is higher so that students can get more opportunities to sit in the exam. Considering this, ICAI has aligned itself with global best practices.”

The move aims to provide students with more chances to appear in the examination, and it also reduces the interval between exams from 6 months to 4 months. This adjustment in the exam schedule is expected to benefit students who have completed their study period, allowing them to appear in the exam without waiting for an additional 2 months.
