Hockey India Unveils Indian Women’s Team for FIH Pro League 2023-24

New Delhi: Hockey India has officially announced the 24-member women’s team set to represent India in the upcoming Belgium and England legs of the FIH Pro League 2023-24. The team, captained by the talented Salima Tete and led by vice-captain Navneet Kaur, comprises a blend of seasoned players and promising talents ready to make their mark on the international stage.

Salima Tete, who recently received the esteemed Balbir Singh Sr. Award for Player of The Year 2023, expressed her excitement about leading the squad. “It is a big responsibility, and I am looking forward to this new role,” said Salima. “We have a strong squad, and it’s a mix of experienced and young players. In the upcoming Belgium and England legs of the FIH Hockey Pro League 2023-2024, we look to put our strong foot forward.”

The FIH Pro League fixtures will see India face off against Argentina, Belgium, Spain, Great Britain, and Germany twice each across both legs, commencing with the match against Argentina on May 22. India currently stands in 6th place, with eight points from eight matches.

The team’s goalkeeping duties will be shouldered by Savita and Bichu Devi Kharibam. The defensive lineup includes Nikki Pradhan, Udita, Ishika Chaudhary, Monika, Jyoti Chhatri, and Mahima Chaudhary.

The midfield section will be manned by a formidable group comprising Salima Tete, Vaishnavi Vitthal Phalke, Navneet Kaur, Neha, Jyoti, Baljeet Kaur, Manisha Chauhan, and Lalremsiami.

The forward line will feature Mumtaz Khan, Sangita Kumari, Deepika, Sharmila Devi, Preeti Dubey, Vandana Katariya, Sunelita Toppo, and Deepika Soreng.

Reflecting on her appointment as vice-captain, Navneet Kaur expressed her excitement and determination. “It feels surreal to be named as the Vice-Captain of the Indian Women’s Hockey Team,” said Navneet. “We have a good team, and we are confident that we will do well in the Europe leg of the Pro League. I am also looking to work on my game and improve.”

The team underwent rigorous training at the SAI, Bengaluru camp, focusing on enhancing their skills and strategies for the upcoming challenges. With a perfect blend of experience and youth, the Indian Women’s Hockey Team is geared up to deliver commendable performances and secure favorable outcomes in the FIH Pro League 2023-24.
