Hockey India Announces 33-Member Indian Women’s Hockey Team for Training Camp in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: Hockey India has unveiled the 33-member Indian Women’s Hockey Team that will continue its training camp at SAI Bangalore until May 16. Following selection trials held on April 6th and 7th, the team has been finalized from the 60-member assessment squad that reported to camp on April 1st.

This squad will vie for selection in future coaching camps and international exposure tours, including the FIH Hockey Pro League 2023/24 matches against Argentina, Belgium, Germany, and Great Britain scheduled later this year in Antwerp and London.

The team comprises four goalkeepers, twelve defenders, eleven midfielders, and six forwards. Notable inclusions are 22-year-old Marina Lalramnghaki from Hockey Mizoram and 25-year-old Manisha Chauhan from Manipur Hockey, both impressing in the 14th Hockey India Senior Women National Championship. Additionally, Preeti Dubey returns to the national setup after catching the selectors’ eye during the assessment camp, marking her comeback since the Hockey World League Semi Final in 2017.

Further, six players have stepped up from the Junior Indian Women’s Hockey Team that participated in the FIH Hockey Women’s Junior World Cup 2023, including goalkeeper Madhuri Kindo, defenders Ropni Kumari and Preeti, midfielder Edula Jyoti, and forwards Deepika Soreng and Rutuja Dadaso Pisal.

Hockey India High-Performance Director Herman Kruis expressed confidence in the new core group, stating, “We now have a promising squad that will feature in the upcoming international tours and FIH Hockey Pro League 2023/24.”
