Hockey Bengal and Hockey Association of Odisha Triumph in National Women’s Hockey League

Ranchi: On Day 6 of the National Women’s Hockey League 2024 (Phase 1) at the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Astroturf Hockey Stadium in Ranchi, Hockey Bengal and Hockey Association of Odisha emerged victorious in their respective matches.

In the first game of the day, Hockey Bengal clinched a hard-fought victory against Hockey Mizoram with a scoreline of 1-0. Despite early pressure from Mizoram and their relentless attacking efforts, it was Bengal who managed to seize control of the game. Shivani Kumari’s (18’) precision strike during the second quarter proved to be the decisive moment, breaking the deadlock and giving Bengal the lead. Despite Mizoram’s persistent attempts, including four penalty corners, they failed to find the back of the net, handing Bengal the win.

In the second match, the Hockey Association of Odisha showcased dominance against Hockey Maharashtra, securing a thrilling 2-1 victory. Despite Maharashtra’s resilient defense in the initial quarter, Odisha maintained possession and created several opportunities. Dipi Monika Toppo (23’) finally broke the deadlock with a goal from open play, putting Odisha in the lead. Maharashtra fought back, with Sunita Kumari (51’) leveling the score with a well-placed shot. However, Odisha regained the lead in the dying moments as Karuna Minz (55’) capitalized on a penalty corner, sealing the victory for Odisha with a 2-1 triumph.
