High-Level Workshop Charts Roadmap for ‘Viksit Odisha’ by 2047

Bhubaneswar: A high-level workshop on the implementation of Odisha Vision 2036 and 2047 was held today at Kharavel Bhavan in Bhubaneswar, with the theme “Viksit Odisha for Viksit Bharat.” The session aimed to align Odisha’s developmental ambitions with the national goal of transforming India into a developed country by 2047.

Chaired by Usha Padhee, IAS, Principal Secretary of the Commerce & Transport and Housing & Urban Development Departments, the workshop was facilitated by experts from McKinsey & Company, the state’s strategic knowledge partner for the Vision Document.

The comprehensive session laid out Odisha’s long-term aspirations, including achieving a Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) of USD 1.5 trillion by 2047, contributing 5% to India’s GDP, and creating over 1 crore non-farm jobs. The state’s vision is built around six core pillars: People First, Rural Empowerment, Prosperity for All, Legacy with Pride, Tech-led Growth, and People-Centric Governance.

A major highlight of the workshop was the unveiling of “36 for 36” flagship programmes, a set of transformative initiatives aimed at catalyzing growth across sectors such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, tourism, skill development, agriculture, and climate resilience.

The workshop included a deep dive into sample execution models, with the Sambalpur Municipal Corporation serving as a case study to demonstrate how the broader vision can be effectively translated into local-level action. Usha Padhee stressed the importance of institutional strengthening, data-driven governance, and interdepartmental collaboration to ensure timely and impactful delivery of development goals.

To ensure effective execution, the workshop introduced key tools such as real-time monitoring dashboards, embedded Project Monitoring Units (PMUs), and a Whole-of-Government approach. Specific Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) have been assigned to departments to track progress across projects.

Senior officials from the Commerce & Transport and Housing & Urban Development Departments participated actively in the session, sharing insights on coordination strategies and the pivotal role of urban transformation and infrastructure development in shaping a more prosperous and inclusive Odisha.
