High Level Committee Holds Interactions on One Nation One Election with Political Parties

New Delhi: The High Level Committee (HLC) on One Nation One Election, chaired by Shri Ram Nath Kovind, engaged in personal interactions with representatives of three prominent political parties to discuss the prospect of holding simultaneous elections in the country.

Representatives of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), including Shri Sudip Bandopadhyay, Member of Parliament, and Shri Kalyan Bandopadhyay, Member of Parliament, reiterated the party’s stance on simultaneous elections. Their views, initially conveyed in a letter dated 11th January 2024, were reiterated during the meeting.

A three-member delegation from the Communist Party of India (Marxist), CPI(M), comprising Shri Sitaram Yechury, General Secretary, Shri Nilotpal Basu, Member Politburo, and Shri Muralidharan, Member, Central Secretariat, also met with the Committee. The CPI(M) representatives conveyed the party’s stand on the issue, aligning with their earlier written submission to the HLC.

The Samajwadi Party, represented by Shri K.K. Shrivastava and Shri Harishchandra Singh Yadav, had an audience with the committee, where they shared the party’s position on the concept of holding simultaneous elections. The party had previously submitted its written submission to the Committee.

The interactions with these political parties are part of the ongoing efforts by the HLC to gather perspectives and insights from various stakeholders on the feasibility and implications of One Nation One Election in India.
