Bhubaneswar: Residents of Odisha are advised to brace themselves for soaring temperatures as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional center predicts the onset of heatwave conditions in the state from April 1.
According to the latest forecast issued by the IMD, Odisha is expected to experience a gradual rise in maximum temperatures, commonly known as day temperatures, by 2°C-4°C over the next three days. Additionally, the minimum temperatures, or night temperatures, are also anticipated to increase by 2°C-3°C over the next two to three days.
In coastal Odisha, the maximum temperatures are forecasted to range between 35-37 degrees Celsius, while in interior regions, temperatures may soar higher, touching 35-39 degrees Celsius. Furthermore, IMD officials caution that after three days, certain areas in Odisha may witness maximum temperatures reaching up to 40 degrees Celsius.
Heat waves can pose significant health risks, particularly to vulnerable populations such as the elderly, children, and individuals with pre-existing medical conditions.
In response to the forecast, authorities advise residents to stay indoors during peak daytime hours, stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids, wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing, and avoid strenuous outdoor activities.
