Odisha, Madhya Pradesh Sign MoU to Deepen Cooperation in Clean Energy

New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: Odisha and Madhya Pradesh have joined hands to accelerate their clean energy transition, with the two states signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote renewable energy, technology exchange, collaborative research and energy efficiency.

The agreement between the Energy Department of the Government of Odisha and the New and Renewable Energy Department of the Government of Madhya Pradesh (MPNRED) was signed in New Delhi on Thursday on the concluding day of the 7th CII International Energy Conference & Exhibition 2026.

The partnership seeks to create a structured framework for cooperation between the two states in renewable energy development, energy conservation, technology transfer and knowledge sharing.

Describing the agreement as a significant step towards regional cooperation in clean energy, Odisha Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo said the partnership would bring together the strengths and resources of Odisha and Madhya Pradesh to support sustainable development and build resilient energy infrastructure.

Under the MoU, the two states will explore joint initiatives in solar, wind and hybrid renewable energy technologies to meet growing power requirements. They will also facilitate technical exchanges on policy formulation, regulatory practices and grid integration of renewable power.

The agreement further provides for collaborative research and development in emerging areas such as energy storage and green hydrogen. Both sides are expected to share technical knowledge and best practices to improve the efficiency and affordability of clean energy deployment.

The partnership seeks to leverage Odisha’s growing industrial base and Madhya Pradesh’s large-scale renewable energy infrastructure to promote investment and innovation in the clean energy sector. Cooperation between the two states is also expected to help reduce the cost of deploying new technologies and strengthen grid reliability.

The MoU comes at a time when both Odisha and Madhya Pradesh are expanding their renewable energy capacities and exploring new technologies to support India’s broader clean energy and energy security goals.

The two states said the partnership would provide a platform for sustained cooperation and contribute to India’s transition towards a cleaner, more resilient and sustainable energy future.
