Haribabu Kambhampati Sworn in as the 27th Governor of Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Haribabu Kambhampati officially assumed office as the 27th Governor of Odisha on Friday. The oath of office was administered by Orissa High Court Chief Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh during a ceremonial event held at the Raj Bhavan in Bhubaneswar.

The event was attended by a host of dignitaries, including Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Deputy Chief Ministers KV Singh Deo and Pravati Parida, Odisha Assembly Speaker Surma Padhy, members of the Odisha Cabinet, Leader of the Opposition Naveen Patnaik, and Vice Chancellors from various universities, alongside other esteemed guests.

Kambhampati’s appointment as Governor of Odisha was announced on December 24, following his tenure as Governor of Mizoram. Before the swearing-in ceremony, Kambhampati visited Puri on Thursday to seek the blessings of Lord Jagannath and His Holy Siblings, a gesture that underlines the deep cultural and spiritual significance of the region. He spent the night at Puri Raj Bhavan before returning to Bhubaneswar for the ceremony.

A distinguished academician and veteran leader, Dr. Kambhampati holds a B.Tech in Electronics and Communications Engineering, an M.E. in Electrical & Control Systems, and a Ph.D. in Control Systems, all from Andhra University. He served as an Associate Professor at Andhra University Engineering College for 24 years, contributing significantly to the field of education.

Dr. Kambhampati’s contributions extend beyond academia. He was actively involved in the Lok Sangharsh Samithi agitation led by Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan during the 1974-1975 Emergency, for which he was detained under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA). His political career saw him serve as the Andhra Pradesh State Executive Member of the Janata Party in 1977 and later as the Andhra Pradesh BJP State President from 2014 to 2018.

With his vast experience in governance, education, and public service, Governor Kambhampati is poised to bring a renewed focus on development and administrative excellence to Odisha.
