Gujarat Labour Secretary Dr. Vinod R. Rao Visits World Skill Center in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: During a two-day visit to Odisha, Dr. Vinod R. Rao, IAS, Secretary of the Labour, Skill Development, and Employment Department of the Government of Gujarat, toured the World Skill Center (WSC) on Monday. His visit included an exploration of the center’s state-of-the-art laboratories and interactions with students about the advanced skill courses offered at this premier skilling institution.

Dr. Rao expressed his satisfaction with the ultramodern facilities dedicated to youth skill development, particularly in the rapidly evolving engineering sector. He commended the Odisha government for its efforts in nurturing the aspirations of its youth.

“The World Skill Center is making a significant contribution to the development of Odisha by providing a platform for talented young individuals to enhance their skills and meet industry demands. This initiative demonstrates the government’s dedication to empowering the ‘Skilled In Odisha’ youth and unlocking their full potential. Ultimately, it aims to strengthen the skill ecosystem in Odisha and elevate the capabilities of its workforce to global standards,” Dr. Rao stated.

Impressed by the successful placements and global opportunities available at WSC, Dr. Rao engaged with students enrolled in various courses. He praised the center’s initiatives aimed at equipping the state’s youth to meet industry requirements effectively.

Accompanying Dr. Rao during the visit were Pinaki Patnaik, Additional Secretary of Skill Development & Technical Education Department and COO of WSC, Principal Shri T. Thambyrajah, and Deputy Principal Jeetamitra Satapathy.

The World Skill Center, a flagship initiative of the Odisha Skill Development Authority under the Skill Development & Technical Education Department, operates on a finishing school model. It offers one-year advanced training courses in seven cutting-edge disciplines through its ‘School of Engineering’ and ‘School of Services,’ preparing Odisha’s youth with the skills necessary to excel in both national and international markets across various industry and service sectors.
