Bhubaneswar: Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment and Energy, Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, conducted a comprehensive review of all ongoing and upcoming GRIDCO projects at Lok Seva Bhavan today, reaffirming the State’s commitment to strengthening its power infrastructure and accelerating its green energy goals.
Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and in line with India’s broader green energy transition, Odisha is undertaking the development of 10,960 MW of renewable and clean energy projects through GRIDCO. These include 7,500 MW of solar energy, 2,000 MW of wind power, 1,200 MW of pumped storage projects, and various other small hydroelectric initiatives.
During the review, Singh Deo closely examined the progress of these projects and expressed concern over delays in implementation. He identified key issues such as land acquisition, environmental clearances, and logistical bottlenecks as major hurdles. To address these concerns, the Deputy Chief Minister personally reached out to the concerned officials over the phone during the meeting and issued instructions to expedite the work.
Singh Deo also highlighted that during his recent visit to New Delhi, he had already presented these project-related issues before the Government of India and successfully facilitated resolutions to remove bureaucratic obstacles and push the projects forward.
The high-level review meeting was attended by Vishal Kumar Dev, Principal Secretary of the Energy Department; Dr. Satya Priya Rath, Managing Director of GRIDCO; Debidutta Tripathi, FA-cum-Special Secretary; Nibedita Mishra, Additional Secretary, IAS; and senior officers from GRIDCO, OREDA, and the Energy Department.
The State’s ambitious renewable energy projects are expected to not only reduce Odisha’s carbon footprint but also boost energy security and economic development through sustainable practices and infrastructure advancement.
