Government Approves PAN 2.0 Project for Technology-Driven Taxpayer Services

New Delhi: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the PAN 2.0 Project of the Income Tax Department, marking a significant step in the modernization of taxpayer registration services. The project, with an estimated cost of ₹1,435 crore, promises to transform the way taxpayers access and manage their PAN and TAN services.

The PAN 2.0 Project is an ambitious e-Governance initiative aimed at re-engineering business processes through cutting-edge technology. The upgraded system will enhance the digital experience for taxpayers by consolidating the core and non-core activities related to PAN/TAN services. This includes improved PAN validation services, which will ensure a streamlined and efficient process.

The project is designed to deliver significant benefits to taxpayers, including:

  • Ease of Access and Speedy Service: Faster and more efficient service delivery with improved quality.
  • Single Source of Truth: Ensuring data consistency across platforms.
  • Eco-Friendly Processes: Minimizing environmental impact through digital operations.
  • Enhanced Security: Improved infrastructure security for greater agility and reliability.

In line with the government’s Digital India vision, the PAN 2.0 Project enables the use of the Permanent Account Number (PAN) as a common identifier across specified digital systems of government agencies. This integration aims to make administrative processes more seamless and taxpayer-friendly.

The upgrade to the PAN/TAN ecosystem underscores the government’s commitment to leveraging technology for enhanced governance and citizen services. By fostering greater efficiency and eco-conscious operations, the PAN 2.0 Project is set to become a cornerstone of India’s digital transformation journey.
