Google Doodle Marks Commencement of 2024 Lok Sabha Elections

New Delhi: Google celebrated the beginning of the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections on Friday with a specially designed Doodle. As voters across the nation headed to the polls for the first phase of voting, Google replaced its iconic logo on the homepage with an image depicting an uplifted index finger marked with ink, symbolizing the democratic process of Indian elections.

The first phase of the elections, spanning 21 states and Union Territories, is the largest phase in terms of the number of polling stations and voters. Over 16.63 crore voters, including 8.4 crore men and 8.23 crore women, will cast their ballots at 1.87 lakh polling stations today.

While Google did not disclose the name of the doodle designer, users clicking on the doodle were directed to search results related to the latest updates on the elections in India.

The general elections to elect 543 members of the 18th Lok Sabha will be held in seven phases, from April 19 to June 1. Subsequent phases are scheduled for April 26, May 7, May 13, May 20, May 25, and June 1, with results set to be announced on June 4.
