Four Icons from Odisha to Receive Padma Shri Awards for 2025

Bhubaneswar: Four eminent personalities from Odisha were named among the recipients of the prestigious Padma Shri Awards 2025. Their exceptional contributions to art, medicine, literature, and classical dance have not only elevated Odisha’s rich heritage but have also brought national acclaim.

This year’s honorees include Adwaita Charan Gadanayak, a celebrated figure in the field of Art, whose works have played a pivotal role in showcasing Odisha’s cultural vibrancy to the world.

In the realm of Medicine, Dr. Ashok Kumar Mahapatra, a distinguished neurosurgeon, was recognized for his groundbreaking work and unwavering commitment to healthcare.

The timeless grace of Odissi dance found its torchbearer in Durga Charan Ranbir, who has been honored for his relentless efforts in preserving and promoting the classical dance form. A revered guru and performer, Ranbir has been instrumental in ensuring that Odissi continues to thrive and gain recognition globally.

Renowned writer and poet Pratibha Satpathy was honored for her outstanding work in Literature and Education. Her evocative writings in Odia literature have touched hearts and minds, exploring themes of culture, identity, and the human spirit.

The announcement of these awards on the occasion of Republic Day has filled Odisha with pride and joy, celebrating the achievements of these luminaries who exemplify dedication and excellence in their respective fields.

The Padma Awards, one of India’s highest civilian honors, are conferred annually in three categories—Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri—to recognize individuals for their exceptional contributions in various disciplines. This year, a total of 139 awards were announced, with 23 women, 10 foreigners or NRIs, and 13 posthumous recipients included in the list.

The recipients will receive the awards from the President of India at a grand ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan in March or April.
