Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Manohar Joshi Passes Away at 86

New Delhi: Manohar Joshi, the former Chief Minister of Maharashtra, breathed his last at a Mumbai hospital today, succumbing to complications arising from a cardiac arrest suffered two days ago. He was 86 years old.

The funeral proceedings for Joshi are scheduled to take place later today at the Shivaji Park crematorium in Mumbai.

The veteran politician was admitted to PD Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai on Wednesday, following the cardiac arrest. He was in the ICU under close observation and was receiving the medical care.

Manohar Joshi served as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra from 1995 to 1999, making history as the first leader from the undivided Shiv Sena to hold the top post in the state.

Beyond his state-level contributions, Joshi was elected as a Member of Parliament and held the prestigious position of Lok Sabha Speaker from 2002 to 2004.

Born on December 2, 1937, in Nandvi, Raigad district, Maharashtra, Mr. Joshi received his education in Mumbai. His spouse, Anagha Manohar Joshi, passed away in 2020 at the age of 75. He is survived by a son and two daughters.

The demise of Manohar Joshi marks the end of an era in Maharashtra’s political landscape, with his significant contributions and leadership leaving an indelible mark on the state’s history.
