
Brazilian football legend Edson Arantes do Nascimento popularly known as Pele has died at the age of 82. Pele was in the hospital at Sao Paulo’s Albert Einstein Hospital where he was treated for cancer as well as kidney and heart problems. His cancer worsened and was not responding to chemotherapy.
Widely considered one of the greatest players of all time, Pele is the only footballer to have won the World Cup on three occasions. He helped Brazil to clinch the trophy in 1958, 1962 and 1970.
In his 21-year career as football player, he has scored a record of 1,283 goals in 1,363 senior matches for clubs and country.
