
Bhubaneswar: An expert consultation meeting convened today at the National Health Mission (NHM), Odisha, to discuss the development of the state’s Vision Document for 2036 and 2047. The session was chaired by Aswathy S., Commissioner-Cum-Secretary of the Health and Family Welfare Department.
The meeting commenced with an overview of the current healthcare landscape in Odisha, focusing on successful programs, identifying gaps in healthcare delivery, and examining key trends that are shaping the future of health in the state. The discussions highlighted several critical factors, including demographic transition, disease burden, the threat of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, urbanization, and extreme weather events.
Experts addressed numerous challenges faced by the state, particularly concerning resource allocation, human resources, health infrastructure, service delivery, research and innovation, and environmental issues. As the dialogue progressed, participants began to define the vision, mission, and actionable components necessary for the Odisha Vision Document.
The consultation underscored the need for a comprehensive and forward-thinking approach to health planning in Odisha. The insights and outcomes derived from this meeting will be incorporated into the Vision Document for 2036 and 2047, ensuring that the state is well-prepared to tackle future health challenges and capitalize on emerging opportunities.
Attendees included key figures from the health sector, such as the Managing Director of NHM, the Managing Director of OSMCL, the Director of Health Services, the Director of Family Welfare, and other high-ranking officials. Experts from various organizations, including the Indian Institute of Public Health-Bhubaneswar (IIPH-B), UNICEF, SUM College and Hospital, JHPIEGO, WHO, RMRC, and McKinsey, also participated in the discussions, contributing their expertise to shape a healthier future for Odisha.
