Enhancing Milk Production with On-Call Artificial Insemination in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Odisha has introduced an On-Call Artificial Insemination (AI) service aimed at transforming dairy farming and enhancing milk production across the state. This innovative service allows dairy farmers to access AI facilities from the comfort of their homes, marking a significant step towards modernization in the sector.

The Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Department has urged dairy farmers and cow-keepers to utilize the toll-free number ‘155333’ to book AI services for their dairy animals. Upon placing a call, the farmer’s details are registered, and a designated AI worker from the locality is assigned to perform the procedure. The entire process is securely completed using an OTP-based verification system, ensuring efficiency and transparency. Notably, Odisha is the first state in the country to implement such a service.

This initiative ensures that dairy farmers receive timely assistance for animal breeding, with on-the-spot AI services for cows and buffaloes. Additionally, it facilitates better tracking and monitoring of breeding-related issues, reinforcing the government’s commitment to modernizing dairy farming and increasing milk production in the state.

Recognizing excellence in service delivery, ten AI workers from across Odisha were felicitated for their outstanding contributions during the recently concluded state-level Fisheries and ARD fair, Matsya-Pranee Samavesh Odisha (MPSO)-2025. These awardees represented ten districts where the On-Call AI service is currently operational, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Bargarh, Cuttack, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Mayurbhanj, and Puri.

The Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Department is now working towards expanding the On-Call AI service to other districts, ensuring broader accessibility and a more significant impact on dairy farming. This pioneering effort is expected to bring transformative changes to the dairy sector, improving productivity and economic benefits for farmers statewide.
