Bhubaneswar: In a proud moment for Odisha’s tribal education ecosystem, Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS), Mahasingi in Kandhamal district has secured a place in the Zonal-Level Youth Parliament Competition after emerging as the regional champion among participating schools from the state.
The school will now represent Odisha in the Zone III competition scheduled to be held at EMRS Ozili in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh. The event is being organised by the National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS) under the inaugural edition of the National Youth Parliament Competition for Eklavya Model Residential Schools.
The competition follows a three-tier structure comprising Regional, Zonal and National rounds and features participation from 36 selected EMRS institutions across India. The initiative has been designed to encourage democratic values, deepen constitutional awareness and strengthen leadership and public speaking skills among tribal students.
A team comprising 58 students and six escort teachers from EMRS Mahasingi will travel to Andhra Pradesh to participate in the next stage of the competition and showcase Odisha’s talent on a larger platform.
Through simulated parliamentary proceedings and interactive participation, the Youth Parliament programme provides students with exposure to democratic institutions while helping them develop communication skills, critical thinking, teamwork and informed citizenship.
The achievement has sparked celebrations across the school community, with teachers, students and parents expressing confidence that the team will continue its strong performance at the zonal stage and bring further recognition to Odisha.
Officials said participation in such national platforms not only strengthens academic exposure but also creates opportunities for students from tribal communities to engage with governance, leadership and public discourse at an early stage.
