Odisha Conducts Second-Phase Induction Training for Newly Appointed PGT Teachers

Bhubaneswar: In an effort to strengthen the quality of higher secondary education and equip newly appointed teachers with essential academic and administrative skills, the Directorate of Higher Secondary Education (DHSE) under the School and Mass Education Department has launched the second phase of induction training for Post Graduate Teachers (PGTs) serving in Government Higher Secondary Schools and Government Upgraded Higher Secondary Schools across Odisha.

The training programme is being conducted at IMAGE, Siripur, and has brought together around 120 newly appointed PGT teachers from across the state. The initiative is aimed at preparing educators to effectively address evolving educational needs and align classroom practices with contemporary learning frameworks.

The inaugural session was attended by State Project Director of Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya Sangathan (OAVS) Smt. Smita Rout, Director of DHSE Smt. Niyati Pattnaik, Joint Directors Sasmita Mali and Snigdha Mishra, and Deputy Director C.H. Vijayalakshmi, among others.

Addressing the participants, Smt. Rout underlined the transformative role of teachers in shaping the future of students and society. She encouraged the newly recruited educators to become mentors and role models for students while emphasizing that teachers carry the responsibility of nurturing informed, responsible and capable citizens.

Speaking on the occasion, Director DHSE Smt. Pattnaik highlighted the critical importance of higher secondary education in determining students’ academic pathways and future careers. She stressed the need for continuous professional learning among teachers and noted that induction programmes serve as an important platform to strengthen teaching competencies and educational leadership.

Earlier, Joint Director Sasmita Mali delivered the welcome address and outlined the objectives and structure of the workshop. Deputy Director C.H. Vijayalakshmi coordinated the programme, while Joint Director Snigdha Mishra delivered the vote of thanks.

The induction programme is being organised in two phases, with the second phase running from June 16 to June 20, 2026. Teachers from subjects including Odia, English and Education are participating in the current session.

The workshop curriculum covers a broad range of themes including implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in teaching, Odisha Education Rules, operation of the SAMS and Shikshajyoti portals, provisions under the POSH Act, scholarship schemes, examination and evaluation procedures, administrative responsibilities and career guidance.

Officials said the training is expected to strengthen classroom effectiveness and help teachers deliver a more inclusive, technology-enabled and student-centric learning experience across higher secondary institutions in Odisha.
