DoT’s Sangam Initiative Kicks Off with Digital Twin Outreach Program at IIT Delhi

New Delhi: The Department of Telecommunications (DoT), in collaboration with the Telecom Center of Excellence (TCOE), inaugurated its first outreach program for the ‘Sangam: Digital Twin’ initiative at IIT Delhi. The groundbreaking initiative aims to revolutionize infrastructure planning and management, bridging the gap between innovation and planning for the future of urban development.

Dr. Neeraj Mittal, Secretary of Telecom, and Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Director of IIT Delhi, jointly inaugurated the event, themed “Bridging the gap between Innovation and Planning.”

Dr. Mittal emphasized the crucial role of digital twins in modernizing infrastructure, fostering innovation, collective action, and collaboration. He highlighted the ability of digital twins to replicate physical assets digitally, collect real-time data, and model process behaviors. The goal is to improve operational efficiency, enable informed decision-making, and save significant costs in infrastructure projects. Dr. Mittal expressed gratitude for the participation of industry leaders, startups, innovators, and academia.

Prof. Rangan Banerjee congratulated the DoT for spearheading such an impactful initiative and anticipated its success in bringing significant advancements to infrastructure and societal development.

The Outreach Program aimed to foster interest and engagement among potential participants. Attendees enjoyed insights from various speakers, including leaders and innovators from different industries. The event provided a platform for networking, collaboration, and inspiration, setting the stage for an exciting journey in the realm of digital twinning.

Throughout the day, participants explored themes such as the journey from the physical world to the real-time intelligent virtual world, dynamic data integration, shaping the future with digital twins and advanced technologies, and building the future together on a global scale.

Asit Kadayan, DDG, DoT, expressed excitement about the Sangam Digital Twin Initiative, calling it a paradigm shift in how infrastructure is conceptualized and managed.

As the telecom industry embraces digital transformation, initiatives like Sangam are set to drive innovation and efficiency, shaping a more connected and sustainable future. The Sangam initiative is open for Expressions of Interest (EoI) from industry leaders, startups, MSMEs, academia, innovators, and forward-thinkers. Digital Twin technology creates virtual replicas of physical assets, enabling real-time monitoring, simulation, and analysis for optimal outcomes.

DoT plans to host the next outreach programs at IIIT Bangalore on March 9 and IIIT Hyderabad on March 12, leading up to the EoI submission deadline of March 15, 2024.
