‘Dilip Tirkey: Beyond the Sport’, A Captivating Photo Exhibition Unveiled in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: A remarkable photo exhibition titled ‘Dilip Tirkey: Beyond the Sport’ by renowned photojournalist Shamim Qureshy opened its doors at the Kalinga Art Gallery in the State Museum Campus on Friday.

Arabinda Kumar Padhee, Principal Secretary, Agriculture Department, Government of Odisha, and Padmashree Dilip Tirkey, the President of Hockey India, graced the inauguration of the exhibition marking the eve of the legendary player’s birthday.

The week-long exhibition features nearly 50 exclusive photographs capturing Dilip Tirkey in various settings beyond the hockey arena. From rare glimpses of the hockey hero in the cockpit of the Indian Air Force’s Suryakiran aircraft to candid moments on a shopping spree, interactions with fans, family, and friends, the exhibition provides a unique perspective on the legend’s life.

Padmashree Dilip Tirkey expressed his joy, saying, “I am delighted to be a part of the photo exhibition which celebrates my journey. My association with Shamimji has been a long one, and these photographs captured by him are a testament to our bond.”

Shamim Qureshy, a veteran photojournalist with nearly three decades of experience, particularly in sports coverage, expressed his delight in dedicating his first solo exhibition to Dilip Tirkey. He said, “It is an absolute delight for me that my first solo photo exhibition is dedicated to Dilip Tirkey, a sports icon who is the pride of not only our state but our country India.”

“Through this exhibition, I hope the hockey fans will get to see a different side of Dilip and relive his memorable moments,” he added.

The exhibition will continue until November 30, 2023, excluding museum holidays.
