New Delhi: The Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) made a striking appearance at the Republic Day Parade with a tableau showcasing the groundbreaking “Purple Revolution” sparked by lavender cultivation in Jammu & Kashmir. The tableau highlighted CSIR’s scientific contributions that led to a surge in lavender farming, transforming it from lab experiments to a flourishing market reality and fostering agri-start-ups in the region.
CSIR’s intervention in Jammu & Kashmir involved the development of an elite lavender variety suitable for temperate climates, distributing free saplings, providing comprehensive agro-technologies to farmers, and installing essential oil distillation units. The success of these efforts has earned J&K the moniker of the ‘Purple Revolution.’
The front section of the tableau depicted extensive lavender cultivation and featured a symbolic representation of an empowered 21st-century woman farmer from J&K. The middle section showcased CSIR scientists providing quality planting materials to farmers, with visuals of farmers actively engaged in lavender cultivation.
One of the highlights was the indigenously developed electric tractor named PRIMA ET11, touted as India’s first women-friendly compact electric tractor. This innovative agro-mechanical technology aims to revolutionize farming practices, particularly for women farmers.
In the agro-technical domain, the tableau illustrated the distillation unit used to extract essential oil from lavender flowers, emphasizing the scientific advancements that contribute to the lavender-based industry.
The rear section of the tableau showcased the concept of agri-start-ups in India, depicting the export of lavender-based products such as perfumes, oil, and incense sticks. This part of the tableau underscored CSIR’s commitment to aligning with government initiatives that focus on scientific developments, empowering women (Naari Shakti), fostering agri-start-ups, and contributing to global business.
CSIR’s Republic Day tableau stood as a testament to scientific innovation’s role in agricultural transformation, economic growth, and the empowerment of local communities. It celebrated the spirit of Viksit Bharat, reflecting India’s journey towards development and progress.
