Commissionerate Police Implements Stricter Guidelines on Bouncer Employment in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack Bars

Bhubaneswar: In response to customer complaints regarding the alleged threat posed by bouncers in bars, the Commissionerate Police has enforced restrictions on the engagement of bouncers in bars located in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack cities.

Commissioner of Police Sanjeeb Kumar Panda issued a notification on Monday, outlining a set of guidelines and conditions for the appointment of private security personnel in bars to ensure the safety and security of customers.

The notification highlighted that the Commissionerate Police had received numerous complaints from customers expressing concerns about the threat to their lives posed by bouncers. In light of these safety issues, the guidelines aim to regulate the employment of private security personnel, commonly referred to as bouncers, in bars.

The notification stated, “It has come to the notice of Commissionerate Police that many bars under its jurisdiction have employed private persons as security personnel who are informally called bouncers. In recent months, some criminal cases have been registered against many such private security personnel. It is apprehended that there is every probability of imminent danger from these bouncers to the life and safety of the customers resulting in a breach of peace and disturbance of public tranquility.”

“To prevent such unwarranted threats to the life and safety of customers, as well as the breach of peace and disturbance of public tranquility, compliance with the guidelines is necessary to deter the said illegal activities,” it added.

Bar owners are required to adhere to the guidelines provided by the Commissionerate Police within a two-month timeframe.
