Coal Ministry Pushes for 100% Safety Audits in Mines, Unveils National Coal Mines Safety Report Portal

New Delhi: In a move to bolster safety in coal mining, Amrit Lal Meena, Secretary of the Ministry of Coal, reviewed the progress of the National Coal Mines Safety Report Portal on Friday. The portal is part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to achieve “Zero Accident, Fail-Proof Safety” across the nation’s coal mines.

The review meeting was attended by the Chairman of Coal India Limited (CIL), CMDs of CIL subsidiaries, and senior Ministry officials. Shri Meena emphasized the importance of conducting 100% safety audits across all coal mines, reiterating the Ministry’s unwavering commitment to improving safety standards in the sector.

The portal demonstration focused on two essential modules: the Accident Module and the Safety Audit Module. These advanced tools are designed to address the critical safety challenges faced by coal mines, which are prone to numerous operational and occupational hazards.

The Accident Module will enable near-real-time reporting within 24 hours, ensuring quick responses to accidents and thorough analysis to prevent future incidents. The Safety Audit Module will streamline the auditing process, reinforcing safety protocols and practices in all coal mining operations.

Meena applauded the efforts of CIL and other coal companies in prioritizing safety and called for swift action to implement the comprehensive safety policy aligned with the coal sector’s vision and mission.

“The Ministry of Coal is determined to foster a ‘Culture of Mine Safety’ by identifying and reducing potential hazards through risk assessment procedures,” said Meena. “By integrating innovative technologies and stringent safety protocols, we aim to ensure the well-being of all employees in the coal mining sector.”
