Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, in recognition of defender-drag flicker Amit Rohidas’ pivotal role in India’s historic Gold Medal win at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, has announced a substantial cash award of Rs. 1.5 crores for the athlete. Rohidas, a prominent figure from Odisha’s Sundargarh region, showcased exceptional prowess in the tournament, earning the admiration of sports enthusiasts not just in the state but across the nation.

Extending his warmest congratulations, the Chief Minister commended Amit Rohidas for his remarkable achievements, characterizing him as an inspiration to young athletes, both within Odisha and throughout India. Rohidas, a product of Odisha’s thriving sporting culture, honed his exceptional skills at the Panposh Sports Hostel in Rourkela. With an impressive record of over 150 caps, he emerged as a crucial asset to India’s campaign in Hangzhou, serving as the primary rusher and demonstrating remarkable strategic acumen. His crucial goal during the semi-final clash against Korea propelled the Indian team to the finals and clinching the coveted gold medal.

Following Kishore Jena’s historic silver medal win in javelin throw, Amit Rohidas has become the second Odia athlete to grace the podium at this edition of the Asian Games, cementing his place in the annals of Odisha’s sporting glory.
