Khurda: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi officially launched the ‘Bikashita Gaon, Bikashita Odisha’ scheme at a programme in Khurda on Wednesday. The initiative aims to strengthen rural infrastructure and accelerate economic growth across villages in the state. The launch event was attended by Panchayati Raj and Rural Development Minister Ravi Narayan Nayak, local MLA Prashant Jagdev, Ekamra MLA Babu Singh, and Khurda District Collector Chanchal Rana.
The Odisha government has issued guidelines for implementing the scheme, emphasizing inclusive and sustainable development in rural areas. Under the initiative, each village will submit a five-year development plan by February 15, outlining priority projects. The government has allocated ₹1,000 crore in the 2024-25 budget for this initiative, ensuring direct funding to panchayats based on new guidelines. Backward and tribal regions will receive top priority.
Of the total budget, ₹400 crore (40%) will be allocated exclusively to 121 blocks under the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA), ensuring focused development in tribal areas. The remaining ₹600 crore will be utilized for the growth of 193 other blocks.
The scheme covers multiple infrastructure projects, including better roads, community centers, Kalyan Mandaps, market sheds, and changing rooms near ponds and rivers. Additionally, reading rooms with internet facilities will be set up in every block to support students preparing for competitive exams, offering them a dedicated study space for a nominal fee.
CM Majhi emphasized that ‘Bikashita Gaon, Bikashita Odisha’ is a gateway to a developed Odisha, aiming to create self-sufficient, well-connected, and progressive rural communities. The scheme is expected to enhance living standards, create employment opportunities, and bridge infrastructure gaps in rural Odisha.
