Centre Approves ₹1,554.99 Crore in Disaster Relief for Five States

New Delhi: The High-Level Committee (HLC), chaired by Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah, has approved ₹1,554.99 crore in additional Central assistance under the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) for five states affected by floods, flash floods, landslides, and cyclonic storms in 2024. The decision underscores the Central Government’s commitment, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to supporting disaster-affected communities across the country.

The approved relief package includes ₹608.08 crore for Andhra Pradesh, ₹170.99 crore for Nagaland, ₹255.24 crore for Odisha, ₹231.75 crore for Telangana, and ₹288.93 crore for Tripura. The assistance will be subject to an adjustment of 50% of the opening balance available in the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) for each state.

This additional aid is separate from the funds already released by the Central Government to the states under SDRF. In the 2024-25 financial year, the Centre has allocated ₹18,322.80 crore to 27 states under SDRF and ₹4,808.30 crore from NDRF to 18 states. Additionally, ₹2,208.55 crore from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF) has been released to 14 states, while ₹719.72 crore from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF) has been allocated to eight states.

In a proactive move, the Central Government dispatched Inter-Ministerial Central Teams (IMCTs) to assess the impact of the calamities immediately after they struck, without waiting for formal requests from the states. This swift action ensured timely evaluation of the damage and expedited the approval of relief measures.

The allocation of ₹1,554.99 crore in disaster relief is a significant step in strengthening disaster response efforts and assisting affected states in their recovery and rehabilitation processes. The Central Government continues to prioritize effective disaster management to mitigate the impact of natural calamities and support communities in rebuilding their lives.
