
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has moved a step closer towards setting up a Central Agricultural University (CAU) in Sambalpur, a project expected to be a game changer for the State’s agriculture and allied sectors.
A high-level meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment & Energy, Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, was held at Lok Seva Bhawan today to discuss the proposal under the Central Agricultural University Act, 1992.
Speaking on the occasion, Singh Deo said the proposed university would play a crucial role in advancing agricultural research, producing globally competitive graduates, and promoting innovation in sustainable and profitable farming systems. He emphasized that the initiative would not only enhance productivity but also ensure food and nutritional security, while transforming agriculture and allied professions into profitable enterprises.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Arabinda Kumar Padhee, Principal Secretary, Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment; Sanjeeb Kumar Mishra, Finance Department; Suresh Kumar Basith, Fisheries and Animal Resources Development; and Dr. Pravat Kumar Raul, Vice Chancellor of OUAT. The officials and experts presented valuable insights and recommendations on the proposal, underlining the importance of the CAU in strengthening Odisha’s agricultural ecosystem.
Once established, the Central Agricultural University in Sambalpur is expected to emerge as a hub for research, innovation, and farmer empowerment, driving growth and sustainable practices across the State and beyond.
