New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) issued a stern warning on Tuesday, cautioning against the spread of fake news and rumours during the upcoming class X and XII board examinations scheduled from February 15 to April 2.
In an official statement, the CBSE emphasized its vigilance and active involvement in identifying and taking strict action against individuals spreading misinformation. The board highlighted the tendency of certain unscrupulous elements to exploit social media platforms, such as YouTube, Facebook, X, Telegram, and others, to circulate rumors about paper leaks and claim access to exam question papers.
The CBSE pointed out that miscreants often circulate fake links to sample papers, falsely asserting that exam questions will be based on those samples. Additionally, fake pictures/videos of question papers are circulated, accompanied by claims of access to the papers in exchange for payment.
The board stressed that these activities are intended to exploit unsuspecting students and parents financially, causing confusion and panic. In response, the CBSE is closely monitoring the situation with law enforcement agencies to take legal action against those involved in such practices, invoking various provisions of the IPC and IT Act.
To maintain the integrity of the examinations, the CBSE announced that it would take strict action against students found spreading fake news under the ‘Unfair Means’ rules and relevant sections of the IPC. Parents are urged to guide their children against believing and participating in such rumors.
The CBSE requested the public to remain vigilant against unverified news and rumors during the 2024 exams. Individuals were cautioned not to engage in or spread such information through any form of communication to uphold the sanctity of the examinations. The board assured that it had implemented comprehensive measures to ensure a smooth and fair conduct of the examinations.
