CBSE to Hold Special Exams for Student Athletes and Olympiad Participants in 2025

New Delhi: In a move to support students balancing academics with excellence in sports and Olympiads, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will conduct special board exams in 2025 for those participating in national and international competitions.

This initiative, introduced in 2018, ensures that students who represent the nation in events recognised by the Sports Authority of India (SAI), the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI), or international Olympiads do not face academic disadvantages.

The provision allows for special exams if CBSE board exam dates overlap with sports or Olympiad schedules, considering even the travel days to and from host cities. Recognised Olympiads include competitions authorised by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE).

CBSE’s policy aligns with the Indian government’s commitment to fostering youth development in sports and academics, ensuring that no student sacrifices one for the other.

Application Process

Eligible students can apply through the following steps:

  • Submit a formal request via their school.
  • Schools will obtain necessary certificates from authorised bodies such as SAI, BCCI, or HBCSE.
  • Forward applications to CBSE by December 31, 2024.

For detailed information, students and schools are encouraged to visit the official CBSE website.

This thoughtful initiative underscores CBSE’s dedication to nurturing well-rounded excellence, enabling students to thrive both in the classroom and on international platforms.
