Boyanika Marks 70 Years of Promoting Odisha Handloom, Announces Special Rebate for Customers

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s apex handloom cooperative, Boyanika, on Tuesday celebrated its 70th Foundation Day, marking seven decades of preserving the state’s rich weaving heritage and supporting thousands of artisans.

The milestone event, held at Boyan Bhawan, highlighted the organisation’s journey as a key driver of rural livelihoods and cultural preservation. Inaugurating the celebrations, Cooperation, Handlooms, Textiles and Handicrafts Minister Pradip Bal Samanta described Odisha’s handloom tradition as a living reflection of its culture, heritage and identity.

“Handloom not only represents our tradition but also sustains the rural economy by providing livelihoods to thousands of weavers,” the Minister said, adding that Boyanika has evolved into a symbol of trust, self-reliance and excellence over the decades.

Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the department, Smt. Guha Poonam Tapas Kumar, who attended as Guest of Honour, noted that Boyanika has earned widespread public confidence through its consistent support to weavers and promotion of authentic handloom products.

To commemorate the occasion and boost sales, Boyanika announced a special additional rebate of 10 per cent on its products, over and above the existing 20 per cent discount, offering customers a combined benefit of up to 30 per cent. Officials said the initiative is aimed at increasing public participation while directly enhancing the income of weavers.

Reflecting strong financial performance, Boyanika reported a turnover of ₹233.56 crore in the 2025–26 financial year and has set a target of ₹280 crore for 2026–27. The growth strategy includes retail expansion, digital integration, and innovative marketing initiatives.
