Bhubaneswar’s New City Project Gains Momentum: Surbana Jurong Team Meets Housing & Urban Development Principal Secretary

Bhubaneswar: The ambitious Bhubaneswar New City Project has taken a step forward with discussions held today between Avinas Misra, Chief Executive, Surbana Jurong South Asia, and Abhisek Malhotra, Regional Director, Surbana Jurong, who met Usha Padhee, Principal Secretary, Housing & Urban Development Department, at Kharavela Bhawan.

The meeting focused on urban infrastructure and managed services, with particular emphasis on shaping Bhubaneswar’s proposed new city. The Government of Odisha has already earmarked 338.436 hectares for the project, which is set to be pitched to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) under the Urban Challenge Fund.

Envisioned as a model city that is inclusive, vibrant, and resilient, the project aims to optimize land value, strengthen global positioning, and achieve international branding for Bhubaneswar. To ensure a robust framework, the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) is considering JLL for preparing the master plan and recommending the most suitable product mix. An MoU in this regard was signed earlier between BDA and JLL during the visit of the President of Singapore to Bhubaneswar.

Highlighting the project’s transformative vision, Usha Padhee said, “The Bhubaneswar New City Project is a landmark step for Odisha to shape a world-class urban centre, reflecting inclusivity, sustainability, and resilience for future generations.”
