Bhubaneswar Shines with Colors of Equality as Rainbow Pride Walk Takes Place

Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar city came alive with an explosion of colors and celebration as the annual Rainbow Pride Walk was organised today. The lively procession, stretching from Housing Board Colony Square to Ram Mandir Square, brought together a diverse crowd in support of LGBTQ+ rights and the promotion of inclusivity.

The Rainbow Pride Walk, a recurring event organized by local LGBTQ+ organizations and activists, attracted thousands of participants who marched through the heart of Bhubaneswar. This year’s edition was particularly special as it marked another successful milestone in the ongoing fight for equality and acceptance.

Rainbow flags, banners, and costumes adorned the participants, symbolizing their pride and commitment to diversity walked on the streets.

The Rainbow Pride Walk provided a platform for individuals of all sexual orientations and gender identities to express themselves freely and raise awareness about the challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community.

Sweta, a participant in the Rainbow Pride Walk, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “I feel immense pride to be part of this event and witness the overwhelming support from the community. Bhubaneswar has shown remarkable progress in embracing diversity, and events like these further strengthen our resolve to fight for equality.”

Mira Parida, a transgender activist, passionately explained the purpose behind organizing the pride walk, emphasizing the importance of visibility and acceptance. She stated, “The purpose of organizing this pride walk is to let people know that we, as transgender individuals and LGBTQ+, not only exist but also deserve equal rights and respect in this society. This event serves as a powerful platform to raise awareness about the challenges we face and to foster a sense of belonging and inclusion. The whole world is observing pride walks, not just for our pride and dignity, but also to stand in solidarity with us, recognizing our struggle for equality.”

Appreciating the remarkable shift in attitudes over the years, especially among the younger generation, Mira added, “When we first started organizing this walk back in 2006, only a few people would stand with us. The journey was challenging, and we faced significant barriers. However, as society has evolved, so has the support we receive. It is truly heartwarming to witness the increasing number of young people who join us, shoulder to shoulder, in our fight for equality and social justice. Their openness, acceptance, and willingness to stand up for what is right give us hope for a brighter and more inclusive future.”
