BDA Allots Affordable Homes to Slum Dwellers Through Transparent Lottery Process

Bhubaneswar: In a continued push for inclusive urban development, the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) today allotted homes to 38 slum dwellers under its Affordable Housing Projects (AHP) and In-situ Slum Redevelopment (ISSR) schemes. The allotment was carried out through a transparent lottery draw held at the BDA office.

This initiative is part of BDA’s broader effort to relocate slum dwellers and provide them with secure, dignified housing. The lottery resulted in 24 beneficiaries receiving homes under the Barunei Enclave AHP at Subudhipur, 9 under the Santi Nagar Awas Yojana (Keshari Residency), and 5 under the Nilamadhab Awas scheme in Chandrasekharpur.

BDA Vice-Chairman Dr. N. Thirumala Naik, who oversaw the draw, reaffirmed the authority’s commitment to building a more equitable city. “We aim to provide more than just shelter — our goal is to ensure a better quality of life with access to essential infrastructure and basic services,” he stated.

To ensure fairness, the entire lottery process was conducted in the presence of Independent Observer Dr. Susama Barik, Secretary-cum-General Manager of Boyanika, along with BDA Secretary Manas Ranjan Padhi and Additional Commissioner (Estate-II) Manoj Kumar Swain.

The draw involved active participation from beneficiaries, who selected tokens from a transparent box under official supervision. Each beneficiary will pay a subsidized amount of ₹1.50 lakh for the allotted flat under the AHP scheme.
