Assam’s Bihu dance and drum performance enters the Guinness Book of World Records

Guwahati: Ahead of Rongali Bihu, Assam’s Bihu dance made it into the Guinness Book of World Records on Thursday for the largest Bihu dance at a single venue.

A total of 11,304 dancers and drummers, dressed in traditional mekhela sadors and dhoti kurta performed the Bihu dance together at the Sarusajai Sports complex in the presence of authorities of the London-headquartered Guinness Book of World Records.

The dancers danced to the tunes of Bihu folk songs, dhols (drums), pepas (traditional flute), and other folk instruments.

The second record in the Guinness Book was set by 2548 dhulias (Bihu drummers) who displayed their musical skills together and performed on the same ground. They broke the earlier world record of 1356 dhulias.

Assam government has announced to provide Rs 25,000 to each performer and the trainers.
