New Delhi: The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) was held today at its Head Office in New Delhi. The elections for the post of Chairman and Governing Council members were successfully conducted, following due procedure. Ashok Singh Thakur was elected as the Chairman for a three-year term.
INTACH, India’s premier heritage conservation organization, was formally established on January 27, 1984. Registered under the Societies Registration Act (1860), its mandate is to preserve and conserve India’s environment and heritage, while fostering awareness and appreciation of the country’s rich cultural and natural legacy. INTACH serves as a cultural bank, providing financial and technical expertise for the preservation of tangible and intangible heritage, natural resources, and innovative cultural activities.
The INTACH Charter, adopted in 2004, serves as a guiding document for heritage conservation efforts in India. Recognizing the evolving nature of heritage, INTACH is currently working on revising the Charter to incorporate an interdisciplinary approach, ensuring that it encompasses all aspects of heritage—from tangible and intangible to natural and cultural dimensions.
