Anu Garg Reviews Rural Infrastructure Projects, Pushes for Timely Completion

Bhubaneswar: The second meeting of the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) High Power State Committee was held on Friday, under the chairmanship of Development Commissioner and Additional Chief Secretary, Anu Garg. The meeting focused on evaluating the progress and financial performance of RIDF-funded projects in Odisha.

The committee reviewed the expenditure incurred on projects listed in the state budget for the 2024-25 financial year. Progress reports of ongoing projects funded by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) were also discussed. Additionally, the committee assessed the successful completion of several projects using RIDF funds and deliberated on proposals for new projects to be submitted to NABARD.

The meeting highlighted significant projects undertaken by various departments, including Water Resources, Agriculture, and Rural Development. Particular attention was given to initiatives under the Micro Irrigation Fund and the Fisheries and Aquaculture Livestock Development Fund (FIDF).

The State Department of Fisheries and Animal Resources presented updates on the development of fishing harbours and river basin projects, which are expected to enhance the livelihoods of rural communities.

Development Commissioner Anu Garg emphasized the importance of adhering to stipulated timelines for project completion while ensuring cost-effectiveness. She urged all stakeholders to optimize the utilization of RIDF funds to drive sustainable rural development across the state.

The RIDF, established by the Government of India in 1995-96, aims to bolster rural infrastructure by financing public sector capital investments. The committee reaffirmed its commitment to aligning Odisha’s infrastructure projects with these objectives, ensuring impactful outcomes for rural communities.
