Andy Murray Announces Retirement Following Paris 2024 Olympics

London:  Andy Murray, the former world number one in men’s tennis, has announced his retirement following the Paris 2024 Olympics tennis competition. This decision marks the end of a remarkable career that has seen him achieve numerous milestones and accolades in the sport.

Murray won his Olympic gold on the grass courts of Wimbledon during the 2012 London Olympics, defeating Roger Federer in straight sets. He successfully defended his title at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics against Juan Martin del Potro.

This month, Murray withdrew from the Wimbledon singles competition following a procedure to remove a spinal cyst, raising questions about his future in the sport. Despite this setback, he remains determined to compete at the highest level one last time.

The 37-year-old, a three-time grand slam champion, is set to represent Great Britain in the games, which begin on July 26.

Murray wrote on his social media account of ‘X’:

“It’s been an incredible journey, but the Paris 2024 Olympics will be my last competition. Grateful for all the support and looking forward to representing Great Britain one last time.”
