Amritsar Hosts Regional Training Workshop for 21st Livestock Census

Amritsar: The Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying (DAHD), Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Government of India, in collaboration with the host state of Punjab, conducted a significant “Regional Training on Software (Mobile & Web Application/Dashboard) and Breeds for State and District Nodal Officers (SNO/DNO) of Delhi, Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana & Himachal Pradesh” today in Amritsar. This workshop is a crucial step towards the 21st Livestock Census scheduled from September to December 2024.

The workshop was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Shri Gurmeet Singh Khuddian, Minister of Animal Husbandry, Fisheries & Dairy Development, Government of Punjab. The event also saw the presence of Shri Jagat Hazarika, Advisor (Statistics), Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India; Dr. B P Mishra, Director, ICAR-NBAGR; Shri V.P Singh, Director, AHS, DAHD, GoI; and Dr. Gursharan Singh Bedi, Director, AHD, Government of Punjab.

The ceremony commenced with the national anthem followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. The distinguished dignitaries delivered addresses, setting the stage for a collaborative and successful training session for the State and District Nodal Officers.

Chief Guest Shri Gurmeet Singh Khuddian emphasized the importance of the Livestock Census and the role of advanced technology in ensuring accurate data collection. He highlighted the efforts of the Punjab government in supporting such initiatives for the benefit of the livestock sector.

Shri Jagat Hazarika and other dignitaries also addressed the attendees, underlining the significance of precise data collection and the benefits of the newly launched mobile and web applications in streamlining the census process.

The workshop included detailed training sessions on using the newly developed software for the census. This training is expected to equip the Nodal Officers with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively conduct the census in their respective regions.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Shri V.P. Singh, Director of the Animal Husbandry Statistics Division, DAHD. In his closing remarks, he expressed gratitude to all the dignitaries, trainers, and participants for their active involvement and contribution. He concluded with a hopeful note, emphasizing that the collaborative efforts and the advanced tools provided would ensure the successful execution of the 21st Livestock Census.
