New Delhi: Minister of State for Electronics & IT, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, and Jal Shakti, Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar, announced the selection of two Karnataka-based futureDESIGN semiconductor fabless companies for financial support under the Semicon India Design Linked Incentive (DLI) scheme. The announcement was made during the launch of “Digital India FutureLABS” at IIIT Delhi, coinciding with the Digital India FutureLABS Summit 2024.
These two companies are expected to contribute to the communication and med-tech sectors by providing a range of chipsets and solutions. Saankhya Labs, one of the companies, focuses on wireless communication and semiconductor solutions for applications such as 5G NR, Direct to Mobile (D2M) Broadcast, rural broadband connectivity, satellite communication modems for IoT applications, and multi-standard DTV modulators and demodulators.
Sensesemi Technologies, the other company, will be developing System-on-Chip (SoC) for the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) and IoT devices. Their SoC aims to integrate Microcontroller Units (MCU) and wireless IP with ultra-low power analog front end and AI inferencing IP, catering to smart wearables, med-tech, and other connected devices.
The Digital India FutureLABS Summit 2024 also witnessed the announcement of 20 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with industry partners for the implementation of futureLABS in six verticals: Automotive, Compute, Communication, Strategic Electronics, Industrial Electronics/IoT, and Design & Innovation.
ChipIN, a key participant in this initiative, is exploring collaborations with leading design and solution companies such as Keysight Technologies, Silvaco, Qualcomm, and NXP Semiconductors for CAD/EDA solutions, startup mentorship, and support. ChipIN, engaged with over 125 academic institutions and 15 startups, aims to become a one-stop center for chip designers across the country.
The Digital India FutureLABS initiative, coordinated by C-DAC, seeks to leverage the trillion-dollar opportunity in the Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) sector. By fortifying domestic R&D and creating a collaborative ecosystem, the initiative aims to propel India into becoming an Electronics Product Nation and Semiconductor Product Nation. The integration of Semicon India’s futureDESIGN and futureSKILLS initiatives further contributes to shaping India’s position in the global tech landscape.
